AT LEAST YOU CAN BE MY LAST

BOOM MAN

Inspired by a ride in a USAF KC-10 during an aerial refueling mission with F-15s over Idaho. I believe this number has cornered 100% market share for country music songs on the subject of aerial refueling.

BOTTLE-FULL HALF WAY

Inspired by my grandfather’s funeral. We were going to bury Papa with a full bottle of his favorite Four Roses Rye Whiskey. Immediately before closing the casket, my cousins and I (pallbearers) decided that he didn’t need the whole bottle and shot a few rounds of toasts. Musically, the song starts as a more somber funeral dirge and breaks into a party.

GET HOME TO YOU

Written on a particularly lonely stretch of I-10 (and there are a lot of them in west Texas!) during a drive from LA to Houston. Fort Stockton is actually not all that bad. K-Bob’s Steakhouse has a wonderful salad bar.

GOTTA LOVE THE HAIGHT

Living in the suburbs, my wife and I decided to expose our kids to the city and sent them to St. Ignatius High School. Our daughter soon discovered she loved “all things Haight Ashbury”. So much for paying private school tuition to the Jesuits.

I WON'T GO QUIETLY

Inspired by the homeless encampments under the freeway on Division Street. I wanted to try a retro-late 60s progressive rock song. Hints of Pink Floyd meets Molly Hatchet. Starts slowly and rational but builds to a full blown musical rant, burns out and settles down. A “cold wind blowing through the boneyard of my dreams”.

IT WAS A COUGAR ATTACK

IT WAS A COUGAR ATTACK (the violation of poor young Jimmy): Written one morning trail running alone on Mt. Tam. Started wondering if the mountain lions were out looking for breakfast. This is how I got my mind off becoming a slow moving kitty meal. No Millennials were harmed in the production of this song.

MILE MARKER NINE

PICKUP TRUCK AND A DREAM

Inspired by a particularly depressing news cycle….I know, that doesn’t narrow it down much. Written for the American working man who gets up every morning, does a job and helps make this world a better place. Luckily, there are still some of them left.

PLUTO AIN'T A PLANET ANYMORE

Story about an old school dude having trouble expressing love in this modern world. Focus of his angst is that Pluto has been downgraded to dwarf planet status. BTW: This still pisses me off! The good sisters of St. Genevieve taught me in grade school that God made the universe with nine planets circling around our sun. Now some bunch of know-it-all scientists go vote Pluto out of the planet club. Could throw the whole universe out of balance. Probably the cause of global warming. Don’t mess with the good sisters of St. Genevieve.
